Getting Started

How do I add music to Scherzo?

Click the + button in the library toolbar and select a folder, or drag and drop audio files directly onto the track list. Scherzo scans the folder and adds all supported files automatically.

Does Scherzo copy my files?

No. Scherzo reads your files in place — nothing is copied, moved or modified unless you use the tag editor.

What audio formats are supported?

Scherzo plays FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC, M4A, and OGG, including hi-res files up to 32-bit/384kHz.

How do I seek to a specific position?

How do I switch to the mini player?

Click the pip icon (⧉) in the top-right corner of the Now Playing view. To return to the full player, click the expand icon in the mini player.

Tag Editing

How do I edit a track's metadata?

Right-click any track in the library and choose Edit Info…. You can update the title, artist, album, and artwork. Changes are saved directly to the file.

Can I edit multiple tracks at once?

Yes. Select multiple tracks (click + or ), then right-click and choose Edit X Tracks…. The bulk editor lets you update the artist, album, and artwork across all selected tracks in one step.

Which formats support tag write-back?

MP3 (ID3v2.3), FLAC (Vorbis Comments), and M4A / WAV / AIFF via AVFoundation. Read-only formats will not be modified.

Troubleshooting

A file won't play — what should I check?

Make sure the file hasn't been moved, renamed, or deleted from its original location. Scherzo reads files directly from disk. If the file was on an external drive, make sure the drive is connected.

Artwork isn't showing for some tracks.

Some files don't have embedded artwork. Use the tag editor to add artwork: right-click the track, choose Edit Info…, and drag an image onto the artwork area.

My changes in the tag editor aren't saving.

Scherzo needs read/write access to your files. If your music is in a protected location, macOS may have denied access. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders and make sure Scherzo has permission.
